maybe mars is going through that strange phase where all the heat contained in mars is released and the surface liquigies into lava and then cools, makeing a whole new surface. It was supposed to happen again a while ago, so it could happen any time soon.

and it makes sence, since IF the phase is happening, the heat starts expanding from the core, therefore thawing the permafrost under mars' surface, making water
