The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a massive internationally-funded particle accelerator located in Switzerland, keeps hitting setbacks. Originally scheduled to power up around 2005, the project's latest snag—supports for the collider's many powerful magnets are failing—has pushed the start date to May of 2008 [this could also affect the Higgs Boson PPX proposition]. Scientists also reported that cooling the massive magnets to the required 1.9 degrees Kelvin (that's cold) seems to be taking “a little longer than planned". Personally, I'm glad they’re spending a bit of extra time to get everything perfect, since one theoretical failure situation could lead to the creation of a black hole that devours the earth.
VR photographer Peter McCready's series of 360-degree, high-resolution techno-porn shots depicting various parts of the amazing 27-kilometer underground complex (complete with soothingly industrial ambient background soundscapes—you can almost hear the magnets cooling) should keep your mind off doomsday long enough to remember that the LHC is probably a pretty good idea after all. Apocalypse watchers: you've got another year to rest easy. —Dan Smith

I think there are no reason to care about end of the world. The maximum what can happen its complite annihilation of France and Switzerland and global Ice Age after it!
For security reason I suggest to the civilians in the location of this machine to leave this place at time of experiment, and the people who do this experiments to warn those people before machine start to go on full power - for them to pray!
And this will never happen, because its stupid as a fact... Live such long time by creating such long history of human race and to reach the final step its destroying of all(except of correcting), for Nova World!??? I think God have a lot of places in his\she's hands to create New Worlds, or you think we dont like them because a lot of p0rn in internet!? OK... For example, the God is hate the p0rno, but why he is create them?
K.O. Have Nice Day, France and Switzerland! ;-)

Her... How about sharing the glory after sharing the work :
"The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a massive internationally-funded particle accelerator located in Switzerland"
It is located at the border of France and Switzerland precisely (now you know why CERN has a French name and not a Dutch name whilst both languages are equally spoken in one of the two latter countries involved in the building of the LHC).
Is US' Popular Science, still biaised towards the French. Remember, you did admit, "The French were right". Shouldn't this be all over by now ?

Come Wednesday we will either be one step closer to understanding the origins of our planet or one step closer to destroying the planet once and for all. Which will it be? Well, we will all just have to wait and see.

Hey stevesterib you are saying to put it on the dark side of the moon think about it there is no dark side because its movin all the time so thats the first point
seconde point this partical accelilator is very huge that even the moon wont be able to handle it and we can just make it in the space because it needs alot of work in the space so is it possible to bring all the workers to the moon to work it there?
it alerdy coast them alot of money

I had thought that according to both the Mayan calender and the I Ching the world ends December 24, 2012. Also if said Nano Black hole can gobble up matter, according to Hawking it would extend it's life to gobble up more matter, giving it the chance to gobble up even more matter. I doubt it would happen, but who really knows for sure.

Wow, how many hungry people could have been fed, how many homeless sheltered, how far could we have advanced alternative fuel sources with the money spent to bang some atoms together and PROVE WHAT?
All of these scientists and the scum who funded this hateful project should be buried alive inside their toy.

Razvan states that the first test will be on Dec. 12th, 2012. It's actually happens Dec. 22nd 2012 and yes, most of Earth suffers for it's invention.

So... What's the point of a theoretical, billion dollar costing Partical Accelerator? Are they hoping to have a "failure" and create a theoretical "Black Hole" and control it to consume all the matter in the countries they don't like? Who knows, I guess we'll never understand governments.
P.S. Black holes are theoretical and besides, you'd need to blow up a star to create one...

If a Black Hole was created we be screwed and end up looking like the Planet Vulcan on Star Trek 2009. OMG THAT WOULD SUCK NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT! Why the hell do scientist need to test this stuff. Do they want their name in a history book or something. This is Dr. S. T. Blah he created a Particle Accelerator. Blah Blah Blah. People who believe in God would now that he created (sorry scientists i think your logic is to insolent to believe in something.) Off Track! So anyway this is crap. Who cares about making matter and stuff.

360° virtual tour photography takes the idea of a static image on a webpage to a new level. Virtual tours can be easily viewed within web browsers compare to that of flash, whilst providing panoramas in full screen and views vertically as well as horizontally. A virtual tour can display any business service, ideal for showrooms.

In the Solar System, the planets and the Sun share roughly the same plane of orbit, known as the plane of the ecliptic. From our perspective on Earth, the ecliptic is the path taken by the Sun across the sky over the course of the year. The 12 constellations which line the ecliptic are known as the zodiac and, through the year, the Sun passes through each constellation in turn. Additionally, over time, the Sun's annual passage appears to recede counterclockwise by one degree every 72 years. This movement is attributed to a slight wobble in the Earth's axis as it spins. As a result, approximately every 2160 years, the constellation visible on the early morning of the spring equinox changes. In Western astrological traditions, this signals the end of one astrological age(currently the Age of Pisces) and the beginning of another(Age of Aquarius). Over the course of 26,000 years, the precession of the equinoxes makes one full circuit around the ecliptic.

I was thinking of starting a travel agency that would set up trips for families wishing to go the all-natural way. In other words, I don't just want to STUDY nature, I want to experience it. I don't really want to study nature at all, just spread the word and get people outdoors. What do you think I should major in, though?

The universe has always existed, it has no beginning or no end, it is pure energy as everything we see irradiates to the space vacuum, making the vacuum not empty as they tell us but full of energy, energy that continues the process of creation.

The sun should have reached its sunspot minimum last fall, but this spring when the number of sunspots should have been on the rise, they were still largely absent. Some sunspots returned in June and July, but have since disappeared.

This is such a fabulously intriguing idea, these books that will never be written. And now I so want to read them all, mostly due to your skill with evocative covers. I look at them and feel the story within. Or the story that could be within. I'm not sure if I should thank you or curse you...
