The ubiquitous Hot Wheels brand of toy cars is releasing a 40th-anniversary collection designed by real automotive car manufacturers. Designers from Chevrolet, Dodge, Honda, Lotus, Mitsubishi and Ford were invited to submit drawings for the limited edition set. The winning 1/64 scale models were selected by a panel of executives and writers from automotive publications like Car and Driver. Though most of the designs appear to be free of any rigorous DOT road-worthiness constraints, each entry had to pass the "one lap" test on Hot Wheels' own oval test track.
The Gangster Grin (shown here) was the winning entry from the Ford family. Its 1950s influence and low-slung appearance led co-workers of designer Steve Glimor, a former Hot Wheels intern, to suggest it was smiling. It's good to see that form doesn't always have to follow function.—MotoMatt Cokeley
As a member of the RLC I'm pretty excited to see what the designers of each car company has come up with. I can't say that I'm impressed with the Gangster Grin. You'll have to do better than that Ford to get my vote.

it looks like that car from that movie where a driverless car hunts down and kills people. Just a big pile of chrome. it looks cool but like most cars out of detroit probably cant handle a turn to save its life. new or used, you basically need something european for good handling.

If it's a hot wheels car I would buy it for my kids, because I bet it's a sweet ride. No one would ever buy it for a car to use around the city though.

What a great looking car. The shame is, just like the General Motors Efijy, it won't go into production.

I think this is a great post. One thing that I find the most helpful is number five. Sometimes when I write, I just let the flow of the words and information come out so much that I loose the purpose. It’s only after editing when I realize what I’ve done. There’s defiantly a lot of great tips here I’m going to try to be more aware of.

Woah! That was so futuristic! Extrinsically creative! I'm having this unexplainable feeling right now! I think that if this car will be used by many, the roads will look perfectly modernized! In years and in ages, that would be so possible.

Wow, is this even a real car or just HotWheels for kids? I'm sure they don't have something this advanced on the vehicle market...

Great concept Hotwheels, keep the new designs coming in. I just had to share this with you. It has helped me in my recent search for a new used car, and cut the time it took me to find it. It's a Global search engine for used cars. It even gives you an alert for when the car your after pops up in an ad.

Wow, this will be the best if it will be on the real road track. I mean that this kind of car design will be out of the market. It will be best selling. I guess.

Wow! I want to have this car someday. How cool riding on this car and I can really imagine myself of that. This is great!

It's a nice car but I don't seem to see any lights around it. Wouldn't it be important for a design to have safety gadgets too?
